May 22 2009: Added PCLOS 2009.1 GNOME version.
PCLOS 2009
PCLinuxOS has been a favorite Linux distribution in recent years. The PCLOS 2009.1 ( with updates from the repository ) lives up to and beyond expectations for a minimally complex and very stable KDE 3 desktop environment. Kudos to founder Texstar and the growing circle of core PCLOS developers for their hard work producing the ultimate "Disto Hopper Stopper".

Smalltalk - The Language That Refuses to Die

Mea Culpa
First, I offer the reader a confession: I gave Smalltalk up for dead ten years ago.
I'm not proud of it. I had a choice between being an advocate of superior software technology or being an up-to-date payer of mortgages. I decided on mortgage payments. In the intervening years of C++, Visual Basic and Java, I didn't look back too much. Other than recalling how I solved a problem in Smalltalk and an occasional bout of Squeak watching, Smalltalk was a thing of the past.

Puppy and XAMPP ( XUPPY or PAMPP ? )
Submitted by billb on Tue, 2007-07-03 08:39.Updated Sept 29 2008: see end of article
I finally got XAMPP working correctly on multisession CD. No, not symlinks, although it looked like it for a while.

Squeak + Puppy = Squeaky Pet ?
Submitted by billb on Tue, 2007-07-03 08:29.So far, I've got Squeak installed on Puppy 210 and 2.16 disk installations. No go for CD / multi-session CD, no surprises there. Need to stick symlinks in appropriate places and try again. I hope it's a unionsfs issue and not a VM issue.

Is Suse Dead ?
Submitted by billb on Thu, 2007-06-28 11:37.
Anyone interested in the Linux operating system has almost certainly heard about the Microsoft "License Agreement" with Novell to exempt Suse Linux from unstated patent infringements. If not, the high level executive summary runs like this.
